MISSIONARY CONNECTION - RUTH PERKINS SIM
My journey with SIM began in the Kadina Church of Christ in 1982 when, as a young nurse/midwife, I came to work in Kadina. At church, I met a young family preparing to go to Nigeria with SIM. Visiting them and seeing the need convinced me that God wanted me too, to serve him in Africa.
So, after Bible College training I joined SIM and began working in Niger – first in Galmi Hospital, then for about 25 years doing health training with the project that is now called Sowing Seeds of Change in the Sahel. I loved working alongside the agricultural team and seeing how health, agriculture and the gospel message brought hope to suffering people.
It was demanding physically, emotionally and sometimes spiritually. There were times when I felt like giving up, but God was faithful and allowed me to keep going. What a privilege it was to serve God in this country of great physical and spiritual need!
My time in Niger came to a sudden end in 2018 when an accident in a village brought me home. But I am blessed to continue in a support role for the project from here in Kadina – writing health training materials and other things that can be done from a distance.

Formerly known as the Australian Churches of Christ Overseas Mission Board, our story began in 1891 as the Churches of Christ Foreign Missions Committee. We’ve spent more than 130 years investing in life-changing partnerships with churches, individuals, and communities locally and abroad, seeing lives changed through our three key areas of work:
relief and development
church partnerships
Australian Indigenous ministry.
Kadina Church of Christ commenced it's ministry in this district with support from the Home Missions Department.
The church has been fortunate to be able to repay this support many times over, particularly through the work of the Sunday School.
Recent years has seen the church contributing to the Great Gifts program through donations at the Sunday School Christmas Service. The children delight in selecting gifts, ranging from school supplies, chickens, sewing machines, and even toilets.
